Portugal's Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA) expanded its online Renewals Portal on 23 October 2026 to accept renewal filings for residence permits expiring up to 31 January 2027, including Golden Visa (ARI) permits and EU citizen permanent residence certificates, DN Brasil and The Portugal News reported on 23 and 26 October. Under Portugal's Golden Visa framework as of October 2026, new applicants qualify with EUR 500,000 in an eligible non-real-estate investment fund (or EUR 250,000 in cultural heritage, reduced to EUR 200,000 in low-density areas), while Lei Orgânica n.º 1/2026 of 19 May 2026 sets citizenship naturalisation at 10 years (7 years for EU and CPLP nationals).
Previously opened for permits expiring in November and December 2026, the portal (portal-renovacoes.aima.gov.pt) now lets holders of cards expiring through 31 January 2027 submit renewal requests online, whereas ordinary permits that expired between 22 February 2020 and 30 June 2025 must use the separate AIMA Services platform (services.aima.gov.pt). Once an applicant registers on the portal and pays the statutory renewal fee, AIMA issues a submission receipt valid for 180 days while the application undergoes administrative review.
Early filing is particularly important because Portugal ended its pandemic-era automatic extensions for expired residence documents on 15 October 2025, making the 180-day AIMA renewal receipt the primary proof of lawful stay in Portugal during processing.
